Year 2 

WELCOME BACK to a new academic year in the Autumn term!

We hope you all had a restful break and are ready for a term full of learning and focused energy. It was wonderful to greet all the children back to Oak Gardens after the summer holidays, and we are all looking forward to the year ahead. It’s going to be an amazing term!

What we will be learning this term

  • English: King Lion, Emma Yarlett. The Gnome Book, Loes Riphagen.
  • Maths: Number and Place Value. Addition and Subtraction.
  • Computing: IT around us. Creating media.
  • Science: Animals including human: How animals grow, what we need to survive.
  • RE: Belonging – Who am I? Right and Wrong.
  • History: Homes over time.
  • Geography: Mapping the world: Continents, oceans and compasses.
  • ART:   DT – Cooking and Nutrition. Explore and draw.
  • PSHE: Relationships – Making friends.
  • PE:  Run, Jump, Throw/Dance.
  • Music:  West African Call and Response song. Orchestral instruments.

Home Learning

Home learning will continue to include reading, maths and weekly spellings, using the following school-based apps and programmes.  

Maths: Home learning will be set as usual, every week via www.mathletics.co.uk and as your child completes it, they will be awarded certificates in achievement assembly on Friday’s.

Reading: Your child will continue to bring books home and we ask that you make time to read with them and listen to their reading. 

We are continuing to use an online handwriting programme called Letter Join which you can find out about at https://www.letterjoin.co.uk/

Children will be given their own individual log-in details where needed.  Where appropriate, additional tasks may also be set via class dojo

PE days

PE days are Tuesday and Friday. On these days, all children need to wear their PE kit to school.

PE uniform

Green or black shorts or track suit bottoms, with a plain white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers.
