Year 6  

WELCOME BACK to a new academic year in the Autumn term!

We hope you all had a restful break and are ready for a term full of learning and focused energy. It was wonderful to greet all the children back to Oak Gardens after the summer holidays and we are all looking forward to the year ahead. It’s going to be an amazing term!

What we will be learning this term

• English: Beanie the Bansheenie, Follow your Dreams and The Station Cat
• Maths: Place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions
• Computing: Computing systems and networks – Communication and collaboration
• Science: Animals Including Humans, Living things and their Habitats
• RE: Faiths and Beliefs in Lewisham, Judaism
• History: Word War II
• Geography: Routes and Roots (Migration and Population)
• ART:  2D drawing, 3D making, Construction
• PSHE: Relationships
• PE: Basketball, Dance, Gymnastics, Netball
• Music: Steel Pans

Home Learning

Home learning will continue to include reading, maths and online work, using the following school-based apps and programmes.  

Sometimes children will be asked to complete research or a project at home.

Maths: Home learning will be set as usual, every week via www.mathletics.co.uk and as your child completes it, they will be awarded certificates in achievement assembly on Friday’s.

Reading: Your child will continue to bring books home and we ask that you make time to read with them and listen to their reading. If they are to make the progress needed, they should be reading for at least 20 minutes every day.

We are continuing to use an online handwriting programme called Letter Join which you can find out about at https://www.letterjoin.co.uk/

Children will be given their own individual log-in details for all of these.  Where appropriate, additional tasks may also be set via class dojo

PE days

PE will take place on Monday and Wednesday please wear the school PE kit to school on these days.

PE uniform

Green or black shorts or track suit bottoms, with a plain white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers.
