Year 3 

🌟 WELCOME TO YEAR 3! 🌟

We hope you had a wonderful summer break. It has been fantastic welcoming the children back to Oak Gardens and seeing their excitement for the year ahead.

Year 3 is full of exciting learning, new challenges, and lots of opportunities to shine. We are looking forward to a fantastic year together!

What we will be learning this term

  • English texts –  ‘Do You Remember?’ written by Sydney Smith and ‘Clever Crow’ written by Chris Butterworth
  • Maths – Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
  • Science – Animals including humans, Food and skeletons
  • Geography – Rivers and Mountains
  • History – Stone Age to Iron Age
  • Art/DT – Construction: Design and build a bridge and Gestural drawing with charcoal
  • Music –Xylophone
  • Computing – Computing systems and networks-Connecting computers
  • RE – Hinduism 3-God and Beliefs
  • PSHE – Relationships
  • PE- Swimming
  • Swimming: Children need to bring their swimming costume, towel and swimming cap every day for the 2 weeks of swimming.

Home Learning

Home learning will continue to include reading, maths and online work, using the following school-based apps and programmes. 

Sometimes children will be asked to complete research or a project at home.

Maths: Home learning will be set as usual, every week via www.mathletics.co.uk and as your child completes it, they will be awarded certificates in achievement assembly on Friday’s.

Reading: Your child will continue to bring books home and we ask that you make time to read with them and listen to their reading.  If they are to make the progress needed, they should be reading for at least 20 minutes every day.

We are continuing to use an online handwriting programme called Letter Join which you can find out about at https://www.letterjoin.co.uk/

Children will be given their own individual log-in details for all of these.  Where appropriate, additional tasks may also be set via class dojo

PE days

PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children need to wear their PE kit to school on these days.

PE uniform

Green or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, with a plain white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers.
